The Cat Rescuer of the Day
The Cat Rescuers is an upcoming documentary about four dedicated volunteers who are saving the lives of hundreds of abandoned and feral cats on the streets of Brooklyn.
Our film calls attention to a global issue being addressed by thousands of organizers and heroic human beings – those who do TNR, volunteer at shelters, take on fosters, what have you. Since we could only put a fraction of those wonderful people in our film, we’ve created the Cat Rescuer of the Day program to celebrate the efforts of as many as possible.
Meet Today’s Rescuer: Melissa McCracken from Bayshore, NY!
Rescue Efforts:
I’ve been doing independent rescue for over 2 years. Decided I wanted to help in our overpopulated feral community so I went to a free TNR seminar, learned how to trap met a few great girls and started trapping. I have TNR’D 65 adults and placed about 30 kittens into rescue for adoption.
One Rescue I’ll Never Forget Was…
I was sitting at my colony on a hot summer night waiting to trap the last adults and I heard this little meowing coming from in between the fences behind a dirty 7-Eleven in Central Islip I saw this kitten her eyes crusted shut maggots coming out of all ends of her body crying and crying and crying I snuck up behind her and grabbed her she panicked and bit me I put her into the Trap covered it sat down on the trap and broke down I never ever in my life ever thought that rescue can bring me to tears the way I was that night
One Thing I wish People Understood about Cats or Cat Rescuing Is…
That they are just trying to survive just like humans are. And that humans can all do a part for the greater good. Plus, cats are great listeners and feel when their human is sad and will sit on your lap when you cry, cuddle up next to you when you feel alone and always be loyal.
When I’m Not Rescuing Cats, I Like to…
I like to read, clean my small home, spend time with my few close friends.
I’m Looking Forward to The Cat Rescuers Film Because…
It will inform more people about how important cat rescue is and how important TNR is and how with each rescue you become a better person in this cold world.
