3/26: Cat Rescuer of the Day: Cindy Hedberg

The Cat Rescuer of the Day

The Cat Rescuers is an upcoming documentary about four dedicated volunteers who are saving the lives of hundreds of abandoned and feral cats on the streets of Brooklyn.

Our film calls attention to a global issue being addressed by thousands of organizers and heroic human beings – those who do TNR, volunteer at shelters, take on fosters, what have you.  Since we could only put a fraction of those wonderful people in our film, we’ve created the Cat Rescuer of the Day program to celebrate the efforts of as many as possible.

Rescue Efforts:

For over 10 years now, we have helped rescue cats, foster them, transport them to rescues or to their forever homes. We also fundraise for local small shelters that are often forgotten and do not receive the help they need. We supply food, blankets and vet bills when needed.

One Rescue I’ll Never Forget Was…

His name is Oscar. He drove to work with me one day — only I had no idea. He was hiding in the engine of my Jeep. When I got out of my Jeep, I heard a kitty crying, realized where it was coming from and flipped out. I had a co-worker come out and help me. As I opened the hood I held my breath, not knowing what I would find. There he was, huddled all the against the firewall, not injured at all. I scooped him up, put him inside my jeep, and took him back to my house. I gave him some water and figured he would go home. When I returned home that night at about 7pm, he was waiting for me. I searched for the owner because it seemed he was taken care of and definitely an indoor cat, but nobody ever claimed him. Oscar had been with us now for three years and he is the best!

One Thing I wish People Understood about Cats or Cat Rescuing Is…

I just wish more people treated cats like the sweet caring animals that they are, and that they didn’t discard them like they have no feelings or emotions. Cats are innocent, true-hearted beings that should be treated with more respect.

When I’m Not Rescuing Cats, I Like to…

Spend time with my rather large fur family of kitties inside and a couple more outside. I try to capture photos if them as much as possible as my other hobby is photography.

I’m Looking Forward to  The Cat Rescuers Film Because…

People need to realize its not ok to treat cats like they do. They need to be aware of the rescues and the people that are out there who can help them figure out options if they no longer want to keep their cat.
