3/22 Cat Rescuer of the Day: Barbara

The Cat Rescuer of the Day

The Cat Rescuers is an upcoming documentary about four dedicated volunteers who are saving the lives of hundreds of abandoned and feral cats on the streets of Brooklyn.

Our film calls attention to a global issue being addressed by thousands of organizers and heroic human beings – those who do TNR, volunteer at shelters, take on fosters, what have you.  Since we could only put a fraction of those wonderful people in our film, we’ve created the Cat Rescuer of the Day program to celebrate the efforts of as many as possible.

Meet Today’s Rescuer: Barbara from Queens, NY!

Rescue Efforts:

I’ve had TNR done in two neighborhoods, adopted out kittens and young cats that were adoptable off the street after vetting, I saved a cat from an abusive neighbor, searched for lost cats and fostered. I also donate money and supplies whenever possible. I’m not affiliated but I’ve fostered for All About Cats, Paul the Cat Guy and KittyKind.

One Rescue I’ll Never Forget Was…

There are quite a few really memorable ones, but I came to know Paul through another trapper who was moving so she referred me to Paul. My daughter’s neighborhood was overrun with pregnant cats and kittens so we hired Paul. He TNR many for us and we got the kittens to rescue. One mama he couldn’t get. Sure enough that mama showed up pregnant again. She had the kittens in my daughter’s neighbors window well. We called Paul and he came and he and my daughter pulled them out with the mom. One was in Superbad shape. We were sure he would die. Paul dropped the well ones off at the rescue and the sick one was taken to LIVS. That cat, a boy, is today Ollie. Beth Stern took over his care and he now has a home with his blind brother, wonder.

One Thing I wish People Understood about Cats or Cat Rescuing Is…

That if they see an unfixed cat there are so many ways they can help so the population is controlled. Get the cat in a carrier. Put it in a bathroom until you can get it to a vet. There are discounted services and agencies that will help. One cat can make a difference.

When I’m Not Rescuing Cats, I Like to…

Family is very important to me. So spending time with them.

I’m Looking Forward to  The Cat Rescuers Film Because…

I’m hoping it will make people see what’s possible and that cats deserve human help and care.
